Description
A very unusual relic from the mid 1800's. This is a cast brass locomotive pilot lamp holder. A fixed globe "classification" lamp would be inserted from the top. The color of the globe would indicate the classification of the train pulled by this specific locomotive. It is solid brass with a hard, perhaps once, more malleable dark material inside the cup. It stands 16" tall and the opening diameter is 5 1/2". It is mounted on a wooden base. This item is from the estate of Ron Santurjian and he had an eye for early New England material. It comes with an information sheet indicating that it is from the locomotive "Governor Gilmore" and it's from the Concord Railroad of New Hampshire. The lantern that fits must be pretty narrow. I tried a couple of mine and they didn't quite fit. yyy
