A LOUIS XVI STYLE FIGURAL GILT SPELTER METAL AND CARVED WHITE MARBLE MANTLE CLOCK, MECHANISM BY C. KETTERER, PARIS, LATE 19TH CENTURY, modeled as an allegory of the fine arts with a classically draped cherub standing above an artist's palette and paint box, while holding aloft a paint brush and dropping a berried laurel wreath before an architect's scroll, above an artist's easel supporting a shallow relief detailed painting resting on a circular case with scrolling beaded crest suspending fruiting leafy clusters, flanking a white enameled dial centering black Roman chapters surrounding reticulated hands and twin key escapements, reversing to a metal bell dome mounted brass mechanism suspending a pendulum before a back plate stamped with oval "C. KETTERER / 8258," on a rounded rectangular base with fluted cavetto. Height: 18 1/2" Width: 21" Depth: 8"
Condition
Possibly re gilt and has small areas of oxidation as well as normal wear, surface buildup in crevices, dial lacking glass cover, white marble base is not polished, has surface marks, scratches and some small chips, lacking feet and winding key.
