WMF (est. 1853) – German metal ware factory in Württemberg
Hallmarked with manufactory mark, ‘B’ (Britannia metal), ‘I/O’ and ‘OX’ (oxidized)
Bulbous Art Nouveau vase on circular base
Figure of goddess of the hunt Diana with dog, both sculpted in the round
Violet hyacinth glass inset, tapered downwards

In art history modernism begins with Jugendstil, which also accounts for the history of the metalware factory WMF. Floral shapes, curved lines, female figures and asymmetric decors dominate their designs starting in about 1895.Â
Condition:
The vase is in good condition with minor signs of age and wear. A leaf / reed has been repaired in the area of the vases' neck. The glas inset does not seem to be original.Â

WMF has produced quality household metal wares since 1853. WMF was founded under the name Straub & Schweizer and won the first gold medal at the World Fair in London in 1862. The company merged with Ritter & Co. in 1880 and emerged as the ‘Württembergische Metallwaren Fabrik AG’, with headquarters in Geislingen.
