A fine award winning exhibition quality model of a 5 inch gauge 4-4-0 American Western and Atlantic Railroad tender Locomotive 'General', built by Mr John Richardson of Halifax to the design of J G S Clarke having silver soldered copper boiler with fittings including water sight glass, injector, blower, bypass, ratchet regulator, brake valve, cab controlled drain cocks, pressure gauge, lever direction control, safety valves and steam brakes. Chassis detail including twin outside cylinders, Stephenson's valve gear, twin crosshead feed pumps, oiling system, steam brakes, chime whistle, polished brass bezel to working front headlamp, polished brass bell, flag poles and cow catcher to front. Cab with sliding roof. Double bogie tender with hand operated feed pump, fitted tender hand brake. The model finished in blue and maroon livery with brass boiler bands, double bogie tender finished in blue and maroon paintwork and sign written W.A.R.R. Length 137cm. Cab width 24cm. Height 38cm. This model was awarded 'The Charles Kennion Memorial Trophy and was also awarded a Bronze medal at the M.E. Exhibition. Boiler History: Southern Federation of Model Engineering Societies Boiler Test Records. Hydraulic test valid until 31st of May 2020. Test pressure 135 psi. Steam test valid until the 14th of June 2017. Working pressure 90 psi. * The 'General' was involved in the Andrews raid of 1862 during the American Civil War, subsequently made famous by the Buster Keeton film 'The General'.
