Description:
Lithographed map, hand-colored. 18.7x46 (7¼x18"); shrink wrapped.
This is an apparently unrecorded later state of the map first issued in 1857, with cross sections of "The First Cable"; "The Cable of 1865"; and "The Successful Cable of 1866" - the latter being of greater width and sturdier design. The various routes across the Atlantic to Great Britain, for both steamers and telegraph cables, are show, also rail lines in the U.S. and western Europe. Evidently issued as an advertising piece for The New York Underwriters Policy of Insurance, with that boldly printed across the Atlantic, and a rubberstamp of S.E. Wood dated Sep 21, 1866. OCLC/WorldCat lists a few copies and variants of the 1857 edition, but none of the present issue.
Condition
Marginal chips at left edge; very good.
