Description
Rhode Island painted fancy chairs, 19th century. Two different chairs painted blue & gold with horseshoe-shaped painted rush seats. Crest rail has painted eagle holding a gold ribbon reading "Rhode Island above an American shield, arrows, and olive branches." Front stretcher on each has gold-painted anchor. Old copper accession tags nailed on back of seat rail reads "R.I. 8". Largest: 34" x 18 1/4" x 16 3/4." Provenance:
