Description
Fully encased Class B model of American three-masted sailing ship,"The Benjamin F. Packard". Model represents the clipper ship as designed and built by Goss, Sawyer and Packard of Bath, Maine in 1883. Three (3) lifeboats mounted on top of forward deck hose. Fully rigged, having running and standing lines. Solid wooden hull painted with Brewster green base, black waterline, white trim. Mounted on baseboard. Excellent condition. Has recently been thoroughly restored, re-rigged and cleaned by professional ship model restorer of Mystic, Connecticut, the work including, but not limited to: thorough cleaning; extensive touch and painting; complete re-rigging of running rigging; repair of most standing rigging, as required, replacement of all lanyards. Model built by William (Billy) Wells, of Stonington, Connecticut, and a former employee at McCormick's Department Store in Westerly, R.I., c. 1940's. Original Benjamin F. Packard dimensions: 244'-2' LOA. 43'-3" beam with a draft loaded of 26-7. Gross tonnage of 2026 tons Model: 40-1/2" L. 27" H. 10-1/4" W. Custom made case has recently been constructed for model. Inside measurements are: 45" L. 31" H. 15" W.
