Description
Graphically Superb!! Lot of 8 Watercolor Prints. MATSON LINES was known for issuing some of the most beautiful menu covers of all time. One of the most famous sets was a series of (8) different beautiful Watercolor covers that depict the various ports of call of the Matson Lines. This series is missing Australia and was used from the late 1950s until the transfer of the ships to Pacific Far East Line in the early 1970s. The illustrations were done by the artists Macouillard & Savage. The Macouillard menus measure 9 "x 12". There are (7) from the liner S.S. Monterey from 4/21/1965 -4/27/1965 & (1) from the S.S. Lurline Captain's Dinner 8/12/1968. Included are (4), 10 1/2" x 13 1/2" menus from the S.S. Lurline 1/6/1953 - 1/9/1953, the artist for these is Eugene Savage. All are actual folder type menus that were used aboard the Matson Line ships. In addition to the beautiful full color cover illustration, each contains the actual menu printed inside, as well as the ship name and date. On each menu is a brief paragraph that describes the cover illustration. The menu covers show the various ports for the Matson Line: NEW ZEALAND, FIJI, TAHITI, SAMOA, HAWAII, SAN FRANCISCO, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.
