This piece is in the highest quality, high gloss black lacquer frame and is in mint condition. The piece also has a triple matted, inner border, and has a 24k gilt gold inner border inside of the frame. We have never seen a piece quite like this one. This piece is titled by the artist in pencil in the lower left corner, is numbered IV/LX HC in the lower center, and signed in the lower right. Lillian Shao is a modern phenomenon, and was given a sense of legitimacy by the work of Andy Warhol, who, along with other pop artists, permanently blurred the line between commercial and "fine" art. With the untimely death of Patrick Nagel, and the passing of Erte, Shao has become the standard bearer of this remarkably popular school of art. While Erte's beautifully styled women were often doll-like, and Nagel's women reflected the super polished and sleek style of the Seventies, Shao's women have a distinct sense of depth and feeling that engages the viewer at an emotional level.
