Catalog Notes: The Ejagham people are best known for their large, skin-covered headdress style crest masks. These masks often have one to three faces and large curling coiffures. They can be realistic portraits of known people or highly stylized figures. The masks are used by members of particular men’s and women’s associations at important events such as funerals. Often the members of the societies have proven exemplary in one way or another.
