Elizabeth Heil Alke (American/Ohio 1877-1938) oil on board winter landscape depicting a boathouse, river and snow-covered hills. Signed Elizabeth Heil Alke lower left. Dark stained wood frame. Sight - 8" H x 11" W. Framed - 14-1/2" H x 17-1/2" W. Biography (courtesy Askart: The Artists' Bluebook): Known primarily as a Cincinnati artist, Elizabeth Alke studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati under Caroline Lord and T.S. Noble during the late 1890s and early 1900s. She and her artist husband, Stephen Alke, lived in New Richmond, Ohio. She was the first woman to win the Ingalls Scholarship, and was a member of The Cincinnati Women' s Art Club, and National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors.
