Description
Sterling silver, the pair of diminutive sugar or sweetmeat bowls each of pointed oval form, lightly lobed into two tiers, atop flaring oval pedestals, the upper rims and the feet both with horizontal banding, and each with an incised gryphon rampant to one side; both hallmarked London, 1794, with the maker's mark of Peter and Ann Bateman, son and daughter-in-law of the famous Georgian silversmith Hester Bateman. Each 2.75" H X 4.25" W X 2.5" D. Total weight approximately 4.4 troy ounces.
