Description

Gem-size ferrotype portrait of 1868 Republican candidate Ulysses S. Grant set in brass surround with symbolic ornament and text "Boys in Blue." Suspended by a blue ribbon from a brass eagle and anchor pinback hanger bar.

Condition

Ferrotype in fair-to-good condition. Overall an excellent, smooth, bright, clean image with some defects including: one minor emulsion crack along lower end of portrait and one abrasion across nose in portrait. Light pitting throughout brass and some verdigris on eagle's wing.
