Original oil painting on board, 24x30 cm (9½x11¾"), framed. Overall 34x40 cm (13½x15¾").

Wonderful scene of a group of Native Alaskan men returning to camp in the twilight in an open boat. Signed and dated in the lower left and with a presentation inscription from the artist on the reverse. Fred Machetanz (1908-2002) was an Alaskan painter and illustrator who specialized in depictions of Alaskan scenes, people and wildlife. Machetanz was named Alaskan of the Year in 1977, and American Artist of the Year in 1981 by American Artist magazine. Machetanz was also awarded honorary doctorates by the University of Alaska and The Ohio State University, his works hang in numerous museum collections inside and outside of Alaska.
