Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Valdivia-Chorrera transition period, ca. 1500 BCE. A beautiful creamy marble figure abstract, rectangular features; arms drawn up to the chest, a face with thin slits for eyes and mouth that recall the earlier Valdivian "Venus" figures, and large, low-relief nose. The head has a double-pointed headdress or hairstyle; the neck is wide and the shoulders almost nonexistent, flowing into a long torso, a belt, and tiny nubs for legs. These figures are some of the earliest artwork from South America. Size: 2.35" W x 4.45" H (6 cm x 11.3 cm)
