Item Details

Description

Good George Fox, London, England, tortoise shell and sterling covered box. The hinged repousse' cover with a gold wash interior embossed with a peasant family confronted by Roman warriors, bordered by elaborate designs, marked Cochin. The tortoise shell body is fitted within silver floral swags with masks and icicles on the shoulder and base. Measures 3 1/4 inches by 2 1/2 inches across. Impressed "GF" (George Fox), lion passant and date letter "U" (1895-1896). There is an inverted "J" 2 inch line in the tortoise body. Tortoise shell is difficult to find. Unusual box.
