Description
Southwestern USA, Jemez Pueblo, New Mexico, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A really beautiful example of a gourd-shaped vessel with a long, slightly flared spout, stone-polished, and signed on the base by Juanita Fragua. Fragua is often considered the matriarch of Jemez arts, reviving the art of traditional pottery making at the Pueblo. She was taught by Al Momaday, and has gone on to teach a very long list of other potters. This simple piece is perfectly symmetrical and incredibly pleasing to the eye, with a gorgeous creamy slip. A small, jagged arrow is painted on the inside of the spout. Size: 4.4" W x 4.55" H (11.2 cm x 11.6 cm)
