Description
GEORGE PATTERSON EQUESTRIAN ENGRAVING: titled, "The Village Blacksmith" by George Patterson (1873 -). Engraving after the painting by famed sport and equestrian painter, John Frederick Herring (1795-1865, Great Britain) who was in turn inspired to paint the scene after the poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow of the same name. Signed, titled and dated in the margins. Framed: 36"h x 29.5"w, original 'wavy' glass and over-painted frame. A rare engraving which was published exclusively for the Members of the Cosmopolitan Art Association, 1858-59. This organization was established for the cultivation of art and literature that was active in Sandusky, OH, and New York from 1854 to 1861.
