Description
59. Silver Day cane-Dated September 2, 1899-Modified Derby shaped silver handle modeled with a different Baroque cartouche on each side and fitted with an ebonized malacca shaft and a horn ferrule. One cartouche is engraved “Gustav Haase”, the other “18/2/9/99”. The stream line modeling of the handle as well as its simplified Historicism decoration speak for the short transitional period between the Künstlerhaus Society and the emerging Vienna Secession taste. The handle is authenticated with obscured Austro-Hungarian hallmarks and in need for some surface polishing to recover its entire initial sparkle.-H. 4 ½” x 2”, O.L. 32 ½”-$400-$600
