JOHN (OLD CROME) CROME (UK, 1768-1821) - "The Old Cottage", oil on coarse linen, unsigned, artist's name and title on frame tag, old handwritten tag verso reads "Bought by Whitelaw Reid from Leggett Bros, London", in the original hand carved gold painted frame, OS: 36 1/2" x 31 1/2", SS: 29" x 24". Good condition. Whitelaw Reid (October 27, 1837 Â– December 15, 1912) was an American politician and newspaper editor, owner of the 'New York Tribune', as well as the author of a popular history of Ohio in the Civil War.
