Description
NAPOLEON LE GRAND: Napoleon in his full coronation attire of December 1804. Jean-Baptist Isabey designed the coronation robe while Jacob Desmalter made the throne after a design by Charles Percier (1764-1838) and Pierre-François Fontaine (1762-1853). Baron Auguste-Gaspard-Boucher-Desnoyers (1779-1857) is responsible for this copper engraving which won him high esteem in the Salon of 1810. After 600 Impressions were made, the plate was returned to Desnoyers as a special mark of honor. Franz Hanfstangle (1804-1877) evidently restruck this work from the original plate. It was colored sometime in the 1970's by a Maine woman. 16" x 22".
