Description
1st-2nd century AD. A bronze bowl or ewer mount depicting the head of a female Bacchante, priestess of Bacchus (Dionysus), with flowing hair caught by a silver-inlaid headband, the eyes with silver inlays and central punched pellets; attachment holes to the rim. Cf. Rolland, H. Bronzes Antiques de Haute Provence, Paris, 1965, item 328 for type. 101 grams, 64mm (2 1/2"). Property of a private collector; acquired before 1975.
