Description
4th century BC. A gold earring comprising a curved shank with filigree, trophy-shaped finial with filigree detailing and two closure loops, hollow-formed beast-head with filigree coils and panels, granule detailing to the brow, coiled wire horns. Cf. Marshall, F.H. Catalogue of the Jewellery, Greek, Etruscan and Roman, in the Department of Antiquities, British Museum, London, 1911, item 1774. 3.21 grams, 46mm (1 3/4"). From the private collection of a German gentleman; acquired prior to 1999.
