Description
Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 662 to 50 BCE. A very rare mummy mask in human form made of baked Nile clay. If you inspect the clay closely you can see it is filled with straw much like adobe and undoubtedly would have been baked in the sun. Once baked it was covered in gesso with white pigment and attached to the sarcophagus with wooden dowels. A remarkably rare example of a type we have only seen once or twice in 25 years. Custom stand. Size: 8" W x 8.75" H (20.3 cm x 22.2 cm)
