Item Details
Description
Greece, Corinth, late Geometric period, 6th century BCE. A beautiful, round-bodied oinochoe (pouring vessel) made from a creamy brown clay, decorated with a dark, chocolate brown, cream, and dark red in linear bands around the body and a radiating pattern from the neck around the shoulder. In antiquity, Corinth was wealthy and believed to be blessed by the gods, in great part due to its natural springs that flowed across its fertile plain. It was a cosmopolitan city that engaged in a great deal of trade with neighbors and other polities, near and far. Vessels like this one have been found in great quantities in graves around Corinth. Size: 7" W x 6.15" H (17.8 cm x 15.6 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Private Orange County, CA collection
