Montreal, Canada, Hudson Bay Company, ca. 1780 to 1820 CE. A Hudson Bay Company fur trade coin silver double bar Cross of Lorraine with Fleur de Lis termini, stamped "HB" with an image of a beaver above and "PH" standing for Pierre Huguet Dit Latour, a Montreal silversmith who along with Robert Cruickshank, and Charles Arnoldi usually signed their noteworthy pieces. In addition to the finely delineated Fleur de lis termini, the trade cross is engraved with lively gestural motifs. These pendants were favored by native tribes, and as important components of warrior costumes, they often featured animal shapes associated with the First Nations. The cross is suspended from a strand of Northern Plains Native American trade beads, including 38 blue and white melon beads alternating with 40 pink pony beads with termini comprised of 16 smaller pink beads, all strung on deerskin.
