First Edition of the first American bookbinding manual. James Nicholson (1820-1901) was born in St. Louis but spent most of his life in Philadelphia. He founded the bookbinding firm of Pawson & Nicholson, in Philadelphia, in 1848.
Condition
Spine with tape repair, ends chipped, label removed from foot of spine; early presentation on front free endpaper, later presentation on front flyleaf, ink stamp of the Library, St. Anne Convent, Melbourne, KY on several leaves; light foxing; good.
