Description
Roman Empire, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A Roman mold-made terracotta Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, standing in classic contraposto weight shift with her left knee protruding and her right hip arched, the folds of her elegant peplos and chiton accentuating her pose, her arms held upward holding rounded implements, presumably of her toilette, in each hand. Her delicate visage is framed by a wavy, centrally parted coiffure tied in a chignon at the nape of her neck. A lovely figure, depicted in an elegant posture, with a finely modeled head, body and drapery. The head with an attractive oblong face, her visage comprised of almond shape eyes, a straight nose and closed lips. Her physique of fine proportions and a sensual posture. All is covered in a pleasing white slip. Size: 6.5" W x 14.75" H (16.5 cm x 37.5 cm)
