Description
FRAMED SILK SCARF AFTER MASSIMO CAMPIGLI: Framed silk scarf after Massimo Campigli (1895 - 1971, Italy) 1938 oil on canvas painting 'Donne Sotte L'Ombrellino (Ladies Under an Umbrella)' Framed: 38" x 34" sight size: 29" x 29".Campigli was an important cultural artist whose works can now sell into the 6-figures, and in his lifetime he was very much aligned with promotion and fashion. Campigli had scarves printed in honor of a solo show held at the Galleria del Cavallino in Venice, 1946; the artist then further retouched some of the scarves with oil and color. It is not unique in modern fashion for iconic artworks to find themselves in today's mode. This scarf was no different as it was sold new in the late 1970's as an exhibition piece within a premiere high-end department store of the era. As with the 1946 exhibition, this framed scarf is signed and designed to resemble it's original Campigli Art piece.

BIOGRAPHY:

In 1895 Massimo Campigli was born in Berlin. Though a prisoner of war in 1916 to 1918; he lived in Florence, Milan, and then Paris – always working as a journalist. It was in Paris, with a proximity to the Louvre and befriended by so many amazing artists of the era – he too among the circle of the avant-garde - that he began to paint. He first exhibited in Rome in 1923. As a part of the “Paris Italians” he would hold major exhibits worldwide through the 1930’s, bringing him international acclaim. Always returning to construct vast commissioned work and major judicial murals, monuments still displayed to this day. He married sculptor, Giuditta Scalini, and would continue making epic artwork into the 1960’s, until his death in 1971. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massimo_Campigli
