Count William de Tromelin was an artist and collector. He was a friend of many of the English artists who visited Northern France in the early nineteenth century, notably, R.P. Bonington (1802-1828), see Lots 182 and 190; T.S. Boys (1803-1874), see Lots 204 and 229; and William Wyld (1806-1889), see Lots 236 and 237. He bequeathed his collection of English watercolours and old master paintings to the Musee de Morlaix.
