++ White House Christmas print for 1978, inscribed by Rosalynn Carter in lower margin, which is normally left blank. Inscription reads “With appreciation and best wishes, Rosalynn.” The “Jimmy” is likely to be secretarial. Within frame: 11 ¾ x 13 5/8 in. Sight condition near fine. Under glass. Not examined out of frame. ++ 1980 White House Christmas print inscribed “To Rex and Dorothy Scouten, Best Wishes and Merry Christmas/ Rosalynn Carter.” The “Jimmy Carter ‘80” is likely by Susan Clough, Jimmy Carter’s secretary. Upper margin foxed. ++ Hubert Shuptrine and James Dickey. JERICHO: THE SOUTH BEHELD. Birmingham: Oxmoor House, (1974). Folio. Cloth, lacking dj. Covers foxed, surface soil. Initial blank leaf inscribed by Rosalynn Carter. (“To Rex Scouten, With best wishes- and thanks for all your help over these past four years/ Rosalynn Carter/ December 1980”). Between the inscription and Rosalynn Carter’s signature is a “Jimmy Carter” that is probably handwritten by Jimmy Carter’s secretary, Susan Clough. Print placed in loose (illustration of “Late Afternoon,” a painting by Shuptrine, loose print foxed). ++ Lady Bird Johnson. Signed inscription on the matting for a color photograph. Inscription reads “For Rex Scouten- who oversees a House full of warm and happy memories for this one time occupant- Lady Bird Johnson.” Photo: 9 x 7 ¼ in. Sight condition near fine. Under glass. Eisenhower (John Eisenhower’s wife, or Dwight Eisenhower’s daughter in law). The inscription, which is on the mount below photo’s image, reads “To Rex Scouten, with high regard and with gratitude for courtesies to us all at the White House in recent years.
