Books are believed to have been the property of Captain Heber S. Thompson who was a member of the Seventh Pennsylvania Cavalry. He was taken prisoner at the Battle of Lovejoy Station when his horse was shot from under him. Includes: 1) Sabre Strokes of the Pennsylvania Dragoons by T.F. Dornblaser. Published in 1884 by the Lutheran Publication Society of Philadelphia. 7-1/2" x 5-1/4"; 2) The Mississippi Valley in the Civil War by John Fiske. Published in 1900 by Houghton, Mifflin and Company of Boston and New York. 8" x 5-1/4"; 3) Women of the War: Their Heroism and Self - Sacrifice by Frank Moore. Illustrated with steel engravings. Published in 1866 by S.S. Scranton & Co. Electrotyped at the Boston Stereotype Foundry. 9" x 6"; 4) Narrative of Military Operations, Directed, During the Late War Between the States by Joseph E. Johnston, General, C.S.A. Illustrated by steel plates and maps. Published in 1874 by D. Appleton and Company of New York. 9-3/8" x 6-1/8"; 5) Was General Thomas Slow at Nashville? With a description of the greatest cavalry movement of the War and General James H. Wilson's Cavalry Operations in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia. Written by Henry V. Boynton, Brevet Brig. Gen. U.S.V.; Historian Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Park Commission. Published in 1896 by Francis P. Harper of New York. Number 63 of a limited edition of 450 copies. 6-3/4" x 4-3/4"; and 6) Minty and the Cavalry. A History of Cavalry Campaigns in the Western Armies by Joseph G. Vale. Published and electrotyped in 1886 by Edwin K. Meyers, printer and binder of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
