Description
The pear-shaped body tapering up to a narrow neck and a square-lipped rim, set with a tall curved spout connected to the neck by a cloud-shaped strut, opposite an arched strap handle with a central raised ridge, the body painted with a peony scroll issuing two large blossoms on each side between a border of petal lappets encircling the foot and upright plantains beneath the square-lipped rim, the under glaze blue of characteristic grayish tone with areas of 'heaping and piling', fitted with antique wood stand, 13 inches height. Provenance: Formerly from the estate of Paul Schmaltz, Maryland, acquired in 1952 from T.Y. King works of art, Hong Kong with original invoice.
