A group of two West African items ++ A carved panel with two swords, Nigeria, Benin. 20th century. 12 1/2" x 16 1/4". ++ A shrine fragment, Nigeria, Yoruba, Owo. 20th century. 10 1/2" x 26 1/4" x 4".
Provenance: The Inventory and Collection from the Estate of Merton D. Simpson. Traditional Benin designs were used in panels commissioned for tables or stools. This particular example is very well executed. ++ This appears to be an architectural element from an Owo shrine.
