Description
1930's 18" Royal Hickman Tri-Color Glaze Paris Ware Art Pottery Vase W/Unglazed Bottom & Reeded Base - This piece is a remarkable Royal Hickman Paris Ware tan with light green, forest green and tan glaze vase with unglazed bottom, circa the 1930's. The piece has stunning attention to detail, and is finished with a beautiful reeded base (each "reed" at the base measures about 1" in diameter). You simply do not see pieces this size by Royal Hickman, as they are very rare because most were damaged or broken over time. This beautiful art pottery piece is from his Paris, Tennessee Studio. It is marked with the Royal Hickman's Paris Ware stamp on the bottom. The piece measures 18"H and 8.5" in diameter. The design of the piece is indicative of Hickman and perfect for a collector. Royal Hickman started as a metal sculptor and potter in California, and then on to Illinois where he worked for Haeger until 1944, but continued to contribute additional designs to the firm during the 1950s on a freelance basis. He operated studio art potteries, in Tennessee and Florida in the 30's, 40's and 50's. Hickman also designed crystal animal figurines for the Heisey Glass Company.Measures: 18"L x 9"D (accross top)
