Colonel Jacob Ruppert, Jr.: stamped "Sterling," "Gorham M'F'G Co." Aesthetic Movement Silver Handled Umbrella in wood form with a snake and salamander with jeweled eyes; inscribed with his name in Art Nouveau Lettering and the date "1890" Good condition, a few dents, silk fraying. Length of umbrella 35 inches (89 cm.). Silver handle 6 1/2 inches (16.5 cm.). Note: Col. Jacob Ruppert, Jr. inherited the Ruppert Brewery and the money to fund the New York Yankees. In 1927 he signed Babe Ruth to the Yankees for an historic $70,000 Contract.). Ruppert's own personality is attested to by the flamboyant umbrella handle with his energy evident in the wear.
