Ferdinand Franz Engelbert Dorsch (1875-1938)
Ferdinand Franz Engelbert Dorsch was a German painter and graphic artist, born in the south of Hungary (Pécs), and later professor at the academy of arts in Dresden. Dorsch studied at the beginning of the 1890s at the academy in Dresden under Léon Pohle, after that he became a student of Gotthardt Kuehl. Around the turn-of-the-century the artist worked in Vienna for some years, where he became a member of the secession and met the Jugendstil painter Carl Moll. At the beginning of the 20th century he returned to Dresden, where he worked as a teacher at the academy and he was co-founder of the artists group 'Elbier'. He painted portraits, landscapes, interiors and genre paintings. Firstly, Dorsch´s art was influenced by tradition and romanticism, later he turned towards painting en plein air and impressionism.
