Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang culture, ca. 1st millennium BCE. A group of four cylindrical mold-made pottery roller stamps. Two have simple line designs; the other two have curving, looping designs. All have holes through the middle, presumably to hold them with a stick or string as they are being rolled and perhaps for storage. These rollers are found with many burials from the Ban Chiang period, and seem to be tools made for applying designs to fabrics. They seem to have acted as stencils on barkcloth. Size of largest: 3.1" L (7.9 cm)
