Description

An early fixed globe lantern that has a free blown body with many swirls and shaping lines from rolling it. The globe has an applied ring to the base and it is thick and heavy. The globe overall is very heavy. The globe is cut in block lettering that is just like all of the similar models that I have seen.

The frame has a star-diamond-star punched vent holes. It has a flat bail and the top deflector assembly is original. The base has 5 point star punched intake holes and these are standard. It has a pinch pot so there is a butt joint on the base tube to the bell. It shows lots of original tin. There is a hole facing downward on the bell. Probably a Popular Electronics wiring project from the 1950s. The pot has seen some folk art repair work. Clearly this is old time work. A new pot has been fitted into a collar on the old pinch pot. There is a single round pick wick burner. The current fount has a Canadian name on it. There are traces of old red paint on the globe and frame.

The Portsmouth Great Falls & Conway Railroad is a Boston & Maine Railroad predecessor that became the Conway Branch. This line passed through the Eastern Railroad before the Boston & Maine. It runs up the New Hampshire, Maine border.
