Description
Finely potted in baluster shaped vase, with tall ovoid body, grooved shoulder leading to tall waisted neck rising toward flaring rim, supported upon splayed prominent foot base. The exterior decorated with polychrome hand painting of two goats and dog beneath a shading tree within landscape. Banded with pendulous and auspicious geometrical pattern on shoulder, rim, and foot.
Mark on base, an iron-red seal mark.
In Chinese symbols, the sheep, ram or goat (yang) is one of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac.
The sheep (yang) has the same pronunciation and therefore symbolizes the male principle yang in Yin Yang and also the "sun".
Sheep kneel when they nurse which to Confucians symbolize "filial piety" as bowing to the mother.

From the collection of General Chen Qi (陳淇) (1912-2000), who styled himself as “Cangquan” (滄泉)and “Yuquanshanren”(玉泉山人), an artist, calligrapher, a prominent businessman and private antiques collector.
