Konstantin Alexeyevich Korovin (1861-1939) – Russian painter and stage designer
Signed and inscribed in Cyrillic as well as dated '1903'

Frame: 57.5 x 76.5 cm
Provenience: Private property, London
Stage design for the opera Prince Igor, written and composed by Alexander Borodin, for the production in the world-famous Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg – Korovin designed costumes for the opera as well.
Condition:
The drawing shows overall discoloration, slightly rippling, handling creases and scattered marks. Creases and tiny damages can be seen to edges and corners, tiny pinholes at three edges and loss of material at the lower edge (c. 2 x 1.5 cm). The frame shows usual signs of age and wear as well as scratches and small loss of material mainly at the upper and at the left edge. The sheet dimensions are 46.5 x 63 cm and the frame measures 57.5 x 76.5 cm.
Konstantin A. Korovin (1861-1939)
Born in Moscow, Konstantin Korovin began to study in 1875 at the city's School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture first architecture and two years later painting. Then he moved to the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, but left quickly. From 1888 to 1894 Korovin traveled to the north, including Norway. He designed costumes and decorations for various theaters. In 1923 he settled in France, where he was strongly influenced by the French impressionists. (msc)
