Description
English, mid to late 19th century. A Jacobean style carved oak altar cabinet, rectangular in form, having a beaded edge, over a frieze carved with overlapping arches and acanthus leaves, over a central rectangular paneled door with a latch, carved with posies in a infinity symbol, flanked on either side by two panels, each carved with a diamond centered with a flower, and accented on each side by a scalloped half-flower, with paneled sides, resting on two turned front legs and squared back legs, with scrolled spandrels and a three-quarter box stretcher. Opens to reveal interior storage. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 30.475", width 35.625", depth 13.25". Provenance: From the Estate of a prominent publisher and philanthropist, Greenwich, CT.
