Puter is said to have been a ship builder in the first half of the 19th century.

Each painting has been back with wood and stretched onto this piece of wood. The woman having a repair to canvas at the upper right hand corner which is no interfering with the figure of the lady and is quite hard to detect. Scattered small losses to surface which is minimal and expected with age.
