Description
late 19th/early 20th century: three pieces French flatware with marks for Henri-Louis Chenailler, oval handles, .950 fine, including 8-1/2 in. spoon, 7-1/4 in. fork and 8-1/4 in.; 8-1/8 in. ladle, fiddle and thread handle, oval bowl, French .950 fine; 8-1/4 in. shell bowl serving pierced ladle, Belgium, marks, .800 fine, all with heraldic devices, 12.21 oz. T. gross weight,. Condition: all with average wear. Notes: The Torre e Tasso family title descended from the Czech branch of the princely house of Thurn and Taxis, a German dynastic family known for their activity in the postal services in 16th century Europe. Prince Alexandro of Thurn and Taxis (1181-1937) relocated to Italy in 1923 and was given the titles "1st Duke of Castel Dunino" and "Prince della Torre e Tasso" by Victor Emmanuel III of Italy. In 1906, he married Princess Marie de Linge (Château de Beloeil, Belgium) and they had three children together before divorcing in 1919. Their children took the title of "Prince(ss) della Torre a Tasso". Castel Dunino remains part of the Torre e Tasso family’s estate.. Provenance: Descended in Family of Prince Louis de Ligne (1854-1918), Princess Marie de Ligne (1885-1980, Belgium) and Louis della Torre e Tasso (1907-1985) (former Czechoslovakia, Italy)
