Unusual Gail Markiewicz Horn Vase done by carving, casting, incising and slip decorating to achieve a rather amazing and large example. A pair of animal horns are created in clay and rest atop the vase. The body has areas of intricate incising and carving enhances with slip painted patches using exotic colors. Some of the incised patterns are covered in metallic glazes including coppery and silvery shades. Signed Markiewicz 2007 in black slip on the bottom. Also marked with her impressed Umbrella mark on the side, usually reserved for her best work. Height 20 1/2 inches. Markiewicz has a great following in contemporary ceramics and we are told, she had a remarkable sold out show in New York City recently.
