Description
Authentic original crayon drawing by Pablo Picasso (1881-1973 Spain / France) Anfora Burlesca with the companion Murano glass "Vase Burlesque" circa 1954. Drawn in 1954 for Egidio Constantini who crafted the glass vase in Murano under the supervision of Pablo Picasso in an edition of three examples, this vase, one for Peggy Guggenheim, and one for Picasso. Colored glass vase in amphora form with two arched frontal handles applied with varicolored glass designs, filigree and bands in red, blue, yellow, purple, and black on a green ground to form a face. Drawing signed upper right, Vallauris 4.8.54. Galerie d'Eendt NV Amsterdam art gallery label on verso. Work measures 8 1/4" x 5 3/4" Frame 18" x 15 1/2". Good condition with slight toning. Small cracks to medium. Measures 18" x 11" Very good condition with no breaks, cracks, chips or repairs. Both items purchased from Sotheby Park Bernet sale number 3652, June 6th 1974. Of the three original vases made from the drawing, this is the only one ever to be offered for sale. The other two remain in the Guggenheim collection and the Picasso family. Subsequent later vases made from the drawing were crafted in black and white glass, not color. Pieces have remained together since 1972 in a private collection and will be sold to remain together at the request of the family. Will not ship. Will refer a local shipper.
