Title: Ten vellum antiphonal leaves (i.e. five bifolia) with two inhabited initials and an elaborate title leaf
Place Published: Zaragoza, Spain
Publisher:
Date Published: 1740
Description:
The title leaf is illuminated on verso only, with recto blank; the other 9 leaves are executed on both sides, with five-line staves of music with text beneath, in black or red, except recto of one leaf has text only. In addition to the two large inhabited initials, there are 10 large initials in red, blue or green. Leaves measure 53x35.5 cm (20¾x14"). some partially stitched together.
An attractive grouping of 18th century antiphonal leaves. The title leaf begins "Rezos Propios de S. Gonzoalo Amaranto, S. Raymundo de Peñafort, S. Thomas se Aquino, S. Joseph..." At the bottom is a notation in a decorative scroll, "Scripsit Frater Sebastianus Laraña O.P.E." and in another scroll, "Del Convento de Religiosas de S. Fe de Zaragoza Año 1740." These leaves are undoubtedly just a fragment.
