Description
This desk-size dynamic figure of an angel in the form of a naked boy with a cornucopia in his hands, hurrying to bring success and prosperity to its owner, is executed in the unmistakable Art Deco aesthetics of dark-brown patinated bronze, on its original marble pedestal. In European tradition, angels are often represented as a naked boy - in the form close to the Amur, or Cupid. The word "angelos" translated from Greek means "messenger" that defines angels' main function - to deliver... The artist created his image of an angel holding a cornucopia filled with fruits and flowers - a symbol of wealth that came to us from ancient Greece, where it was traditionally put into the hands of the God of Wealth and Fertility, Pluto. The sculpture is signed on the circular bronze base "DAUMILLER".
Gustav Adolf Daumiller (1876 - 1962) was a German sculptor and medalist. Daumiller was born in the town of Memmingen, the fourth of ten children. In 1898, he began studying at the Design Academy in Hanau, and in 1900 went to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. From 1902 to 1904, he continued his education in London. Then, during 1904 and 1905 - at the Academie Julian in Paris, and from 1905 to 1907 - at the city's Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Daumiller moved back to Germany in 1908 and worked in Munich, where he was regularly represented at the art exhibitions at the Glass Palace. In addition to large and small sculptures, he also designed medals and plaques. During the National Socialistera in Germany, he created designs for porcelain sculptures for the Rosenthal factory, in order not to collaborate with the Ministry of Art and, possibly, fulfill their "special" orders. There is a Daumiller street in Memmingen that was named after the artist.
