Large Ancient Roman Limestone Stele Ca. 2nd - 4rd century A.D.Size:39”W. x 29-1/2”H. x 6”D.Large carved limestone stele, carved in high relief with half round figures, depicting three different portrait busts, depicting a bearded elder, a youthful male with curly hair and a youthful female, wearing drapery garments, female with a hooded garment. Female holds a laurel branch and has her hand resting on the youthful males shoulder. Very good detailed carving. Overall scattered encrusted surface patina. Custom base. Quite a spectacular example.Provenance:comes with laminated Art Lost Registry certificate # S00092696. Ex Arte Primitivo, Ex, Private NYC collection, acquired Tepper Auction Gallery, NYC. Ex.
