Description
Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An impressive redware sculpture representing a seated shaman, with gently bent, outstretched legs, his elongated arms falling beside his torso, hands placed upon knees. He wears a classic shaman's horn on his forehead wrapped by an incised strap that continues around his chin and a 5 petaled collar. The figure's visage is quite serene, perhaps indicative of a prayerful or trance-like state. A magnificent example liberally covered with manganese. Size: 10.125" W x 14.625" H (25.7 cm x 37.1 cm)
